Probably because I mostly go where tourists fear to tread and modernity has not made inroads. I remember once being uncertain of a route while in the desert (moving sands had obscured the track) came across some Bedouin who not only showed me the way, but gave me some water from a hole in the ground (Deep!) It was as good as any I have had; cold and refreshing.
